Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice Development Diary Showcases the Voice Cast
Ninja Theory are known for creating rich cinematic experiences within their games, which is why they’ve assembled a team of highly talented actors to lend their voices to Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. In a newly released development diary, director Tameem Antoniades introduces the voice cast and treats us to some samples of their performances. The full cast are listed as follows:
Steven Hartley – Zynbel (Senua’s druid father)
Oliver Walker – Dillion (Senua’s lover)
Ellie Piercy – Galena (Senua’s mother)
Chipo Chung – Narrator
Melina Juergens – Senua
Nicholos Boulton – Drouth (Senua’s friend)
Last year, it was revealed that the developers have also created a world first: technology which allows live action footage to be rendered in real-time in the game world, explaining how the actors’ performances were so seammlessly integrated into the game. Lead actress Melina Juergens had her face scanned by VFX company 3Lateral to allow protagnist Senua to have a wide range of facial expressions.
Antoniades, who also directed DmC: Devil May Cry, explained in a recent video that he made the bold decision to have Ninja Theory self publish and finance Hellblade so that they could have complete creative control and retain ownership of the IP. This makes Hellblade one of the few truly independent AAA games, and we couldn’t be happier for it.
The importance of recognizing and addressing mental illness plays a huge role in the game’s plot, something which Antoniades explains would not fly with a major publisher. Despite being self-financed, he also explains that the motion capture techniques created by the team are more advanced than those used in James Cameron’s Avatar, and if that’s not incredible then I don’t know what is.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice will launch on PS4 and PC later this year.
