Alien: Covenant Takes #1 at the Box Office
It’s official, kids! James Gunn’s spectacular Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has finally vacated the top spot for this weekend’s box office haul! In its place slides a very gooey Alien: Covenant (review).
Know what that means? Ridley Scott will definitely be making another Alien movie… but why am I not more excited?
Per Box Office Mojo, Covenant took in $36,160,621 (not quite as big of a 3-day opening as Prometheus‘ $51,050,101 or, sadly, AVP‘s $38,291,056), and that was enough to narrowly edge out Guardians‘ weekend grab of $34,653,754. Alien: Covenant seems to have scored better with critics than it has a very vocal fanbase. In truth, the general reaction has been along the lines of “I didn’t dislike it… but…” or “It’s just okay.”
Speaking only for myself, I’ve grown way tired of the whole creationism aspect of Ridley’s movies as there has yet to be a worthy payoff for any of the existential fuckery he’s put forward ahead of the monster action. What did YOU think?
