Nosferatu Now Available in Color!
There’s a new version of the F.W. Murnau classic Nosferatu on DVD and this one is sporting a new score and for the first time ever… color. The results are interesting. Take a look and let us know what you think.

Nosferatu: The Colorized Version transforms F.W. Murnau’s black-and-white silent original into a more visually compelling movie by adding the dimension of colorization. Nosferatu was the first feature-length vampire movie, and was actually an unauthorized adaptation of Dracula, Bram Stoker’s classic vampire novel. Nosferatu kept most of the storyline of Dracula while altering the names of the characters.

This film is regarded as a masterpiece of the German Expressionism art movement, and expresses the subjective mental world of the characters depicted in this horror film. Contemporary vampire movies continue to borrow ideas from Nosferatu up to the present day, such as the danger that sunlight presents to vampires. This silent movie was convincing to the extent that some people thought that Max Schreck, the actor who played the role of Nosferatu, actually was a vampire. The parts of the movie which depict the vampire’s castle were filmed in Slovakia. This Kinemacolor film includes a new musical score and newly colorized intertitles.
