Word on Jeepers Creepers 3 has been quiet ever since the news broke that original film star Gina Phillips is not the lead of the third entry and the plot details that had been circulating were, in fact, wrong. And while we wish we could give you rock solid information about the film’s status, nothing certain has been released.

However, in a recent interview with Diabolique Magazine, Phillips spoke about her character’s role in Jeepers Creepers 3, explaining that while it’s true that she’s not the star of the film, she’s a rather integral role to the story, saying, “I am in it in order to launch what happens next.

She continues by explaining: “The character’s in me now. Trish is in me – she’s with me – it’s not hard to come back to who she is at the core. But a lot has changed for Trish over the years. She’s a mother; she’s been through a lot. I haven’t gone through anything like what this character has been through – and I’m knocking on wood as I say this because I’m pretty superstitious – but I am a mom now and I understand that journey of, once you become a parent, you would do anything for that child as far as beg, borrow, steal, kill, or die for your child. It was easy to put myself in that place because it parallels my life.

As for how writer/director Victor Salva plans on explaining Trish’s role in the film, Phillips states, “Victor has written what happens from the second after the conclusion of Jeepers Creepers 3. I think that’s all I’m allowed to say about it but he wrote in such detail and he had a lot of flashbacks to what happened over the years that it made it very easy for me. I got to see what will eventually happen to the character and he put enough flashbacks in there that I got to see what happened to her over the last 15 years. Let’s just say, there’s more to come.

And for fans wondering why she wasn’t in the second film, Phillips explains that it wasn’t her fault and she would’ve loved to have returned. “There was originally a story that involved my character, and the studio ended up thinking it wasn’t the right movie to make,” she told the magazine. “They didn’t think it was scary enough. So Victor wrote a new movie that had nothing to do with me. I didn’t turn it down. I’m glad you asked because it’s something I’ve always wanted to clear up. Every time I see that written I think, ‘No, I didn’t turn it down!’
