Wake Wood Director Looking to Prowl with the Cat People
For the past three years Hammer Films has been developing a remake of the Jacques Tourneur 1942 classic Cat People, which was already remade once in 1982 by acclaimed director Paul Schrader. After years of talk it looks as if someone is finally ready to step up to the plate, and he has a star already in mind.
According to Film Shaft Wake Wood director David Keating is looking to be that man to handle the job of recreating the cult favorite film. “I’d like to do a Hammer remake of Cat People with Imogen Poots (Fright Night, 28 Weeks Later),” he tells the site.
The storyline in older drafts for the remake script penned by Todd Stein and Ravel Centeno-Rodgriguez goes as follows: “An ancient matriarchal race of Cat People are all but vanquished by the Spanish Conquistadors at the end of the 15th Century. The two survivors, now living in modern-day Miami, feasting off the lascivious male population, must mate with a Cat Man who is about to be ordained as a Catholic priest in order to perpetuate their race.”
We’ll keep you posted on any progress.
