Darren Bousman Updates Us on Mother’s Day Remake – Exclusive New Bloody Still

A few months ago we announced that Darren Bousman’s long awaited remake of Mother’s Day would be released theatrically on April 1st. After noticing things went eerily quiet, we reached out to Bousman to see if it was still coming.

“I wish I had news … But the reality is I have no news,” Darren tells us. “GIGAPIX, who bought the film, IS putting the film out, and putting it in theaters, but they have not given me a new release date yet. It truly sucks and is tearing me up inside – as I am so proud of this movie – and what we pulled off.”

Bousman continues, “It’s a film that is dividing people. As we have seen, some LOVE it, some HATE it, but ALL of them talk about it. I cannot wait for this film to actually be made available and for the masses to see it. As a director – I am terrified of making something middle of the road. Mother’s Day is ANYTHING but middle of the road. I promise you – PROMISE the wait will be worth it.”

There you have it, kids. The straight dope. Look for more on Mother’s Day (review here) very soon. In the interim Bousman has hooked us up with a couple of pretty extreme new stills, one of which is completely mind-blowing. Dig them below.

Synopsis
After a bank robbery gone wrong, three brothers head for home, hoping their MOTHER (Rebecca De Mornay) can provide them with a getaway. The youngest brother, JOHNNY (Matt O’Leary), has been shot, and their back-stabbing former partner has gotten away with all the cash.

But when the brothers get home, they find that all their stuff is gone and Mother is nowhere to be found: She lost the house months ago in a foreclosure. The new owners, BETH and DANIEL SOHAPI (Jaime King and Frank Grillo), and their guests, gathered for an ill-timed birthday party, become the brothers’ unwitting hostages.

Not long after, Mother arrives, along with the boys’ sister LYDIA (Deborah Ann Woll), and it soon becomes clear that Mother will do absolutely anything to protect her children. In one terrifying evening she brilliantly takes control of the situation and masterminds her sons’ escape from the law.

Sides will be taken, secrets revealed, and sins punished as the hostages struggle to make it through the night alive.
