SXSW 2011: Exclusive Video Interview – Dread Central Chats with the Director and Cast of My Sucky Teen Romance

Writer/director Emily Hagins has quickly become a filmmaking force to be reckoned with, and she’s only 18 years old. My Sucky Teen Romance, which is Hagins’ third feature film (a fact that makes this writer feel a bit like a slacker in comparison), is centered around 17-year-old Kate, who is enjoying her last weekend in town with friends at a local sci-fi convention that’s become somewhat of an annual trip for the group.

At the con Kate meets Paul, and from there the awkward teen romance goes wrong when Kate realizes her suitor is a vampire after he mistakenly bites her. Kate and her friends soon discover that Paul isn’t the only vampire they’ve got to contend with at the convention and set out to take out the bloodsuckers and find a way to turn Kate back.

My Sucky Teen Romance premiered during the South by Southwest Film Festival, and Dread Central had the opportunity to sit down with Hagins (who is also the youngest female filmmaker working in the US) as well as cast members Elaine Hurt, Santiago Dietche, and Patrick Delgado about their experiences making My Sucky Teen Romance, how IndieGoGo helped Hagins get the film made, and much more.
