Thumper Dances to the Beat of the Nintendo Switch

The indie title Thumper was one of the highest reviewed PC games of 2016. To be more precise, of the several hundred games released on PC last year, Metacritic rank Thumper at number 28 in terms of review scores, with it’s own ranking clocking in at 85%. Not too shabby.

Despite its title, Thumper has nothing to do with cute Disney bunnyrabbits or any such bullshittery. It’s actually a rhythm violence game where you control a space beetle traversing all manor of Hellish landscapes and engaging in some pretty epic boss battles. Although it only received an E10+ rating from the ESRB, Thumper proudly declared itself to be a horror game from the get go, so I recommend that you think twice before buying this for your kids.

Thumper was the brainchild of creator and developer Marc Flury, with Brian Gibson of the band Lightning Bolt providing the soundtrack. If you’re tired of mainstream fare and want to engage in something a little more artsy, Thumper is currently available on Steam and PS4, and has also just hit the Nintendo Switch eShop. And before you watch the trailers below, keep in mind that you’re not tripping balls, that’s just how the game’s supposed to look and sound. I think.
