We heard from indie filmmaker Patrick Rea today with updates on two of his projects that we’ve been following: the upcoming short film “Rhino” and Rea’s second feature film Nailbiter. He also included a few new stills from Nailbiter.
With regard to “Rhino”, Rea and SenoReality Pictures will begin shooting the drama-thriller about drug dealers in a college town on April 21st. The short film stars Malcolm Goodwin of A&E’s new series “Breakout Kings” and Keith Loneker (Leatherheads, Lakeview Terrace). Principal photography will take place in Lawrence and Overland Park, Kansas.
As for Rea’s anxiously awaited indie horror feature Nailbiter, he tells Dread Central that post-production is on track. The $200,000 budgeted film was shot in Lawrence, Kansas, and the Kansas City area and is hoping for its first screening in the late summer. Currently co-producer Ryan S. Jones is hard at work on sound design while composer Julian Bickford is scoring the film.
Nailbiter tells the story of a mother and three daughters who get caught in a Kansas tornado and are forced to take shelter in a storm cellar. They become trapped and discover they are not alone.
The film stars Erin McGrane, Meg Saricks, Sally Spurgeon, and Emily Boresow and is directed by Patrick Rea from a script by Kendal Sinn. The director of photography is frequent collaborator Hanuman Brown Eagle. Brown Eagle also produced with Jones, and Aaron Laue is executive producer. It’s a co-project of SenoReality Pictures and Ministry Machine Productions in collaboration with Free State Studios.

Never one to rest on his laurels (or rest at all!), Rea also hopes to start pre-production on his next feature, sci-fi thriller The Mirror Watcher in the late fall.
