Jane Doe Delivers a Sweet Shock to Our Office
Every once in a while, a studio and their marketing crew will put together a promotional package for the press that goes a bit beyond the usual screener disc and info sheet. Something a little bit special that turns up at the office out of the blue.
These things are generally pretty cool — from bloodied baseball bats to papercraft dioramas.
But it isn’t very often that such a package actually makes us gasp in shock… which is why, today, we have to pay our deepest respects to Lionsgate, Fetch Publicity and The Autopsy of Jane Doe.
To celebrate the release of André Øvredal’s superb toe-curler, a strange box arrived at the door…
Inside — a copy of the film, along with a promotional t-shirt… and something else…
Unexpectedly signalling its presence with the sharp ringing of a tiny bell, beneath the wrapping of this surprisingly weighty object we were confronted with… A SEVERED FOOT.
But this isn’t just any severed foot — it’s made entirely of chocolate!
Whilst eating our way through this work of art may run the risk of losing a foot of our own, much kudos go to Lionsgate for the effort. This really is a standout piece — it’s a shame it will either eventually melt or be eaten!
The Autopsy of Jane Doe is out now on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Download across the UK. Check it out — it’s a fantastic slow-burn exercise in fear. Some may even say it’s *ahem* deliciously scary. (No, I’m not sorry for how cheesy that is.)
Synopsis:
Experienced coroner Tommy Tilden and his son Austin run a family-owned morgue and crematorium in Virginia. When the local Sheriff brings in an emergency case – an unknown female corpse nicknamed ‘Jane Doe’, found in the basement of a home where a multiple homicide took place – it seems like just another open-and-shut case.
But as the autopsy proceeds, these seasoned professionals are left reeling as each layer of their inspection brings frightening new revelations. Perfectly preserved on the outside, Jane Doe’s insides have been scarred, charred and dismembered – seemingly the victim of a horrific yet mysterious ritualistic torture. As Tommy and Austin begin to piece together these gruesome discoveries, an unnatural force takes hold of the crematorium. While a violent storm rages above ground, it seems the real horrors lie on the inside…
