A fifth movie has been added to The Collective’s already impressive summer line-up. The French film The Hedgehog (Le hérisson) will be looking at a release date of August 5th Stateside and will be joining Rammbock, Yellowbrickroad, Cold Fish, and Atrocious for what they are calling “a summer of smart horror“.

As “>previously reported, The Collective has partnered up with our friends at Bloody Disgusting and the good folks at AMC Theaters to bring some unique horror films to the table this summer with their showcase Bloody Disgusting Selects. With representatives from Germany, Spain, Japan, the US, and now France – this is truly a wide slice of the horror pie.

The Hedgehog, directed by Mona Achache and distributed by NeoClassic Films, is a deep and atmospheric film that explores the journey of a 12-year-old girl (Garance Le Guillermic) bent on ending her life. Not as much typical horror fare as definitely a darker film sure to hit home with many of our readers.

Here’s where I lay it out – if you are a horror fan and you ever complain about what’s making it through to your screen (big and small alike), get out to the theater this summer and support these films. There are some amazing flicks in this line-up, and the only way we keep getting cool treats like this is if YOU vote with your money and feet and check these kinds of deals out.

What film in the showcase are you most excited about? Will you be making it out? Talk about it in the comments below.

Synopsis
THE HEDGEHOG is the timely story of Paloma, a young girl bent on ending it all before she becomes an adult. Chronicling the hypocrisy she sees in her parents and others with her father’s High-8 camera, Paloma (Garance Le Guillermic) begins to learn about life from the grumpy building superintendent, Renée Michel (FRENCH TWIST’s Josiane Balasko). When Paloma’s camera reveals an extensive secret library in Renée’s back room, and that the usually gruff matron reads Tolstoy to her cat, Paloma begins to understand what there is to be found beneath the prickliest of exteriors. As the unlikely friendship deepens, Paloma’s own coming of age becomes a much less pessimistic prospect.
