Help Give Killer Klowns From Outer Space an Orchestral Soundtrack!
Growing up, my parents were weird about what kinds of movies I could and couldn’t watch. James Bond? Fine. Over-the-top 80’s action films? Go ahead. Horror movies? Nope, no way, nuh uh, don’t even think about it. But for some reason, Killer Klowns From Outer Space was perfectly fine. I think they thought the title was so ridiculous that it simply couldn’t be scary. While the film as an adult doesn’t rattle my bones, there were enough moments in it that, as a child, I felt spooked. But something about it has always allowed it to have a place in my heart, which is why I’m thrilled about this piece of news.
The film’s composer John Massari has opened an Indiegogo to raise funds to create an orchestral reimagining of the soundtrack! The process will include opportunities to stand in the middle of recording sessions using VR technology and a few lucky backers will have the chance to attend a live session!
The project is hoping to raise $27,000 and the various perks are actually fantastic for how much you invest. For example, the $35 level includes an audio CD, a drawstring tote bag, a pin, and a wrist band. Something like that from any other source would probably be around $50.
Some cool pieces of news that come with this endeavor is that renowned composer Bear McCreary, of “The Walking Dead”, “Battlestar Galactica”, 10 Cloverfield Lane, and more, will be participating and using his collection of rare instruments to help add new levels of texture to the recordings. The CD and DVD releases will also include never-before-seen artwork from the Chiodo brothers.
If, like me, you’re a fan of Killer Klowns From Outer Space, this is a great way to give it some new life and to show that there is still great interest in the property. Maybe this is the path to a sequel?
