Witness Andy Serkis Becoming Caesar for War for the Planet of the Apes
Whatever your thoughts on the content of the films themselves, there is no denying that the Planet of the Apes movies have astounding CG. A new short video shows just how effective the CG is by showing actor Andy Serkis in a motion capture suit giving a stirring monologue. As he talks in this one-take video, he suddenly morphs into Caesar and see just how intricate and detailed the visual FX are. From the emotion-filled eyes to each individual strand of hair, Caesar comes to life not only through Serkis’ performance but through Hollywood magic.
“Over the course of three films, Weta Digital has mastered the art of translating human actors to apes. The apes level of sentience has developed throughout each film and so too have Weta Digital’s techniques and toolsets. Developing some of the most advanced techniques in the industry, Weta artists employ these tools to create exceptional CG characters.”
