Word’s hit the Interwebs that Sony’s upcoming Venom adaptation will feature a character familiar to comic fans… According to That Hashtag Show, Ann Weying, the ex-wife of (Tom Hardy’s) Eddie Brock, will be making an appearance alongside the previously announced Carnage.

The site goes on to report that “Ann was a lawyer in the comics but Sony has not yet committed to her back story for the film. The studio, working with a new script from Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, is looking to cast an actress in the range of 25-32, so a few years younger than Hardy, to play the role of Ann. In the comics, Ann was shot by one the characters who took the name Sin-Eater, only to have her life saved by the symbiote. It set off a series of events that lead to her depression and suicide.

Whether or not Venom will officially be part of the MCU has yet to be confirmed by either Disney or Sony.

Venom will be directed by Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer, with Tom Hardy starring as the titular anti-hero Eddie Brock. We also know that Carnage, who was introduced to the comics to serve as Venom’s pure evil counterpart at a time when Brock was becoming less of a villain and more of an anti-hero, will serve as the film’s antagonist.

Venom hits screens on October 5, 2018.
