The Dark Tower TV Series Moving Ahead With Idris Elba Confirmed
While we wait for The Dark Tower to hit the silver screen next month, plans are still moving forward with a TV series adaptation that will continue the story on the small screen. Speaking with Deadline, Akiva Goldsman gave an update on the series, telling the site, “The first episode of a show has been written, and we hope to retain Ron’s original idea to mix platforms, something that seemed revolutionary 10 years ago but now is something that others have done.”
Additionally, it looks like Idris Elba will retain his role as The Gunslinger, with Goldsman saying, “Idris for sure is part of this, and if the movie is Roland Deschain the gunslinger, the show is his origin story, based on the fourth novel in the series, ‘Wizard and Glass’.”
Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Fran Kranz, Abbey Lee, Tom Taylor, and Katheryn Winnick co-star in The Dark Tower.
Based on the King-penned fantasy series, the film follows a wandering knight who is the last hope of the fallen land of Mid-World. He is charged with finding the Dark Tower while battling his nemesis, the Man in Black.
Nikolaj Arcel directs with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer producing under their Imagine Entertainment banner along with Stephen King and Erica Huggins. Look for the film in theaters on August 4, 2017.
