The New York Asian Film Festival hosted the premieres of two genre titles and photos from the premiere events have been released, all of which can be seen below. The event took place from June 20th through July 16th and celebrates Asian culture across all forms, including horror, sci-fi, and fantasy titles.

Below are images from the premieres of Zombiology: Enjoy Yourself Tonight and The Villainess.

First is Alan Lo’s Zombiology: Enjoy Yourself Tonight, which follows two friends who have always dreamed of being heroes only to face a reality where that bravery actually needs to be drawn upon.

Synopsis:
Lung (Michael Ning) and Chi-Yeung (Louis Cheung) are two eccentric hot-blooded young men leading a devil-may-care life. They deem themselves as heroes that can save the earth.

However, Lung can do nothing about things in life that don’t work out as he wishes: he has to move out from where he has grown up; his step-mother Shan (Carrie Ng) has chronic depression; he finds his father (Alex Man) who’s just out of jail so annoying to get on with; his friend Chi-Yeung is fervently chasing a girl named Chan-Yat (Cherry Ngan) while his own idol, a star called Yee-Sue (Venus Wong), is still unreachable.

In the meantime, a monster from Lung’s favorite animation appears in the city out of reason and turns people into zombies. The outbreak of this zombie crisis is followed by a widespread chaos all round. Even Lung’s neighbors have become zombies as well. Lung’s father happens to be out of town traveling with Shan. And Chan-Yat has gone missing too.

Lung risks his life to break into the infected town in order to take her back home and meanwhile realizes he is merely a loser and slick talker. But he decides not to avoid anymore and to fight a battle against zombies tonight…

Next up is Jung Byung-gil’s The Villainess. Well Go USA snapped up domestic rights for this film at Cannes earlier this year. It will be coming out August 25th.

Synopsis:
Kim Ok-bin plays Sook-hee who from an early age has been taught to kill. She gladly accepts the chance to start a new life when South Korea’s Intelligence Agency recruits her as a sleeper agent, with the promise of complete freedom after ten years of service. But soon after taking on her new identity as Chae Yeon-soo, a 27-year-old theatre actress, she begins to realize that for someone who has lived as a killer her entire life, normal is no easy task. When two men from her past suddenly appear in her new life, it unlocks dark secrets that should’ve stayed hidden, and the fallout is swift and explosive.
