The Horrors of Fantasia: Day 4
So the wife and I made the long, long drive from Massachusetts to Montreal again this year, though thankfully this time we don’t have to worry about leaving again for another week. 5 hours may not seem like a long time, but believe me, it can be when there’s not much to see around you.
Evil Andy and his lovely fiancée, Hazel, were kind enough to offer us a room in their spacious, well-lit digs again this year, quite an act of generosity considering my propensity for walking around naked, and for that we can’t thank them enough.
We got in late, but in time to hear the reaction to the screening of J.T. Petty’s S&Man (review), which was overall very positive indeed (thank God) before we headed out to check out Spiral (review), Adam Green’s co-directed follow-up to Hatchet which, as Andy told you in the Day 2 & 3 coverage, went over amazingly well with the Fantasia crowd, as we expected.
Spiral is very different as you’ll read about in my review, but Green should be incredibly proud of what he managed to accomplish, especially with a brief 3-week shot. We were lucky enough to be able to hang with Green, along with many other Fantasia stalwarts, after the showing for some beers, and man it feels good to be back here again, drinking till very early in the morning and doing nothing but talking about movies. Heaven? As close as I wanna get.
Today we’re off to see the new Oxide Pang entry Diary, the incredibly freaky sounding Woman Transformation and hopefully get a lot more drinking it. Oh, and it’s my wife’s birthday today (everyone say HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MICHELLE when you read that), so a trip to Chinatown is a must.
