Fearmongers Gains, Loses Blood
The upcoming 13-hour long series of films made by some of the coolest indie directors working today, Fearmongers, just dropped the word to Fangoria about some new additions and subtractions from its lineup.
First, the loses: Dante (Satan’s Playground) Tomaselli has backed out the project after his brief attachment so he can focus on his next feature, The Ocean, with 100% determination. Douglas (“Cutting Moments”) Buck has also removed his name, most likely to make sure that his upcoming Sisters remake gets the attention it deserves.
Taking their place are some names that are just as cool: Sin-Jin Smyth helmer Ethan Dettenmaier, Dust Devil director Richard Stanley, and Subconcious Cruelty director/The Abandoned writer Karim Hussain. Hussain had talked about the project to me during our brief stint at Fantasia, but at the time he wasn’t considering it seriously because they couldn’t settle on the script.
“We all agreed on the story I wanted to do ultimately and I’m very excited about it,” Hussain told me today. “It’s something very political and quite extreme as a social satire, so it’s exactly the kind of thing I’d like to do these days. Having Richard Stanley on board is really cool as far as I’m concerned, really excited about that as well”
Though no specific films have been named to date, Fango did learn that Manson Family director Jim VanBebber will write, direct, and star in his tale, which is about werewolves. Can I get a “Hell yeah!”?
