Joe Lynch’s Mayhem is carving itself a wondrously bloody path of destruction through the festival circuit and picking up some accolades along the way!

From the Press Release:
Popcorn Frights Film Festival, Florida’s largest genre film event, has announced the 2017 Audience Award winners. The 2017 seven night event featured over 40 North American, US, and Florida premieres, numerous special guests, and record attendance.

Mayhem, directed by Joe Lynch, won the Audience Award for Feature Film. Starring a hammer-wielding Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), Mayhem is a pedal to the metal savage genre-bender that presents a wonderfully violent middle finger to corporate culture.

Popcorn Frights Award

“I am beyond words hearing the news about Mayhem winning the Audience Award! Popcorn Frights is one of the most exciting new festivals emerging in the US, bringing a great & diverse selection of genre films to a rabid audience, so it was already an honor to bring some Mayhem to Miami but this is, for lack of a better term, “F’n AWESOME! Thank you all and Mayhem reigns!” said director Joe Lynch.

Winning the Audience Award for Short Film was Buzzcut. Written and directed by Jon Rhoads and Mike Marrero, two South Florida filmmakers who presented the film as part of Popcorn Frights inaugural Homegrown: 100% Pure Fresh Squeezed Florida Horror program.

“It’s an honor just to screen alongside these great shorts, we were blown away by the ones we saw. So we are thrilled about the award,” said Jon Rhoads and Mike Marrero.

“Popcorn Frights Film Festival’s third edition was even more successful than we could have ever dreamed. The Festival brought the best of international genre cinema to Miami, inspiring not only South Florida audiences but our growing community of filmmakers who are helping tell Miami stories. On behalf of the Popcorn Frights team, we congratulate Mayhem and Buzzcut as the 2017 Audience Award winners, and hope film lovers worldwide get to experience these brilliantly bold films,” said Igor Shteyrenberg & Marc Ferman, Co-Founders & Co-Directors of the Popcorn Frights Film Festival.

Runners-up for the Audience Awards include Still/Born, directed by Brandon Christensen, for Feature Film and Great Choice, directed by Robin Comisar, for Short Film.

46 films were presented at the third annual edition of Popcorn Frights Film Festival, including the North American Premieres of Jackals, The Hatred, and The Bride, and the Florida Premieres of Mayhem, Super Dark Times, The Endless, and Tragedy Girls. Numerous guests attended the Festival as well, such as Joe Lynch, Graham Skipper, Zach Kahn, Jeremy Gardner, and Brandon Christenson, amongst others.

The fourth annual Popcorn Frights Film Festival will take place on August 10-16, 2018.
