IFC Comes Clean with a Trailer and Release Date for Psycho Documentary 78/52
We’ve been anxiously awaiting more details about IFC’s plans for the Alexandre O. Philippe-directed documentary 78/52, which deconstructs the infamous shower scene from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho; and today we have the official release date and a new trailer to share thanks to EW!
The film was acquired by IFC Midnight out of Sundance and will be released in theaters and on VOD and all digital platforms on October 13th.
78/52 features interviews with Guillermo del Toro, Bret Easton Ellis, Karyn Kusama, Eli Roth, Walter Murch, Peter Bogdanovich, and more, including Janet Leigh’s daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Anthony Perkins’ son, Osgood Perkins. Philippe wrote the script, which breaks down the scene that became a template for how to terrorize a movie audience with a combination of imagery and suggestion.
The title refers to the number of setups (78) and cuts (52) in the scene, which took one quarter of Psycho’s four-week shooting schedule.
78/52 is an Exhibit A Pictures production, produced by Kerry Deignan Roy and co-produced by Oliver Schwehm of ARTE G.E.I.E., Chad Herschberger of Milkhaus, Annick Mahnert of Screen Division, and Robert Muratore of EXA. Felix Gill of Sensorshot Productions, Joey Porcelli, and Randy Pharo served as executive producers.
