THS 2017: Telluride Horror Show’s First Wave Will Bring Us Creep 2 Premiere
The 2017 Telluride Horror Show has announced its first wave of films that will be playing this year at the 3-day festival and it’s packed with some absolutely incredible titles! Festival favorites Mayhem, by Joe Lynch, and The Endless (review), from Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, will be making an appearance. Additionally, the festival will see the U.S. premiere of Creep 2, which will be coming out October 24th from The Orchard.
Also appearing this year will be Luciano & Nicolás Onetti’s anticipated What the Waters Left Behind, Adam Green’s Victor Crowley (review), Fabien Delage’s Cold Ground, Leo Scherman’s Trench 11, and many, many more films! In fact, the first wave seems like it would be enough to fill the entire weekend but apparently there’s a second wave coming!
A special 35mm screening of Mario Bava’s The Whip and the Body will also take place, which will be hosted by renowned producer Jon Davison (Robocop, Starship Troopers) along with a presentation of “Trailers From Hell”, an 80-minute collection of some of the most brash, explosive, and outrageous trailers over the years!
On top of multiple feature-length films, there’s also a large collection of shorts that will be playing. Having attended THS last year, I can say that the shorts collections are a blast and well worth your time if you attend!
The festival will be guest hosted by Meredith Borders of Birth.Movies.Death.
You can see the full list of first wave titles below!
Features

USA | 2017 | 91 min | Director: Alexandre O. Philippe
The screeching strings, the plunging knife, the slow zoom out from a lifeless eyeball: In 1960, Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho changed film history forever with its taboo-shattering shower scene. With 78 camera set-ups and 52 edits over the course of 3 minutes, Psycho redefined screen violence, set the stage for decades of slasher films to come, and introduced a new element of danger to the movie-going experience. Aided by a roster of filmmakers, critics, and fans – including Guillermo del Toro, Bret Easton Ellis, Jamie Lee Curtis, Eli Roth, and Peter Bogdanovich – director Alexandre O. Philippe pulls back the curtain on the making and influence of this cinematic game changer, breaking it down frame by frame and unpacking Hitchcock’s dense web of allusions and double meanings. The result is an enthralling piece of cinematic detective work that’s nirvana for film and horror buffs.

In 2007, forty-nine people were brutally torn to pieces in Louisiana’s Honey Island Swamp. Over the past decade, lone survivor Andrew Yong’s claims that local legend Victor Crowley was responsible for the horrific massacre have been met with great controversy, but when a twist of fate puts him back at the scene of the tragedy, Crowley is mistakenly resurrected and Yong must face the bloodthirsty ghost from his past. VICTOR CROWLEY’s ensemble cast also features Laura Ortiz (2006’s The Hills Have Eyes), Dave Sheridan (Scary Movie), and Brian Quinn (truTV’s “Impractical Jokers”). Writer/director Adam Green proudly returns to the director’s chair of his series that, upon debuting in 2007, was energetically touted as a return to “old school American horror,” and whose maniacal fan-favorite villain quickly secured a place among slasher royalty.
