The Suffering Games Re-released By Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
I remember the PS2 and Xbox classic The Suffering and its sequel The Suffering: Ties That Bind, as being two of the goriest, nastiest, and most downright disturbing games I’ve ever played. Ties That Bind was so extreme in its content that Rockstar Games even presented it in court in their appeal against the British Board of Film Classification’s ban of Manhunt 2, to prove that the ban was unfair because there were far more explicit games on the market.
Both Suffering titles developed by Surreal Software both feature a protagonist named Torque, who may or may not have murdered his family, as he escapes from a prison and then a town overrun with nightmarish creatures, which were designed in collaboration with Stan Winston.
Because publisher Midway went bankrupt back in 2010, the games were removed from sale and were unavailable on digital storefronts, meaning that they could only be purchased as second hand physical copies. That all changes now, however, as Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have released both Suffering games on GOG.com for $8.99 each. You can buy the first game here and Ties That Bind here. It’s about damn time horror fans got to re-experience these two incredibly nasty gorefests.
