Get out your calendars, kids. There are dates to be marked off! Lionsgate announced today not only when After Dark’s alien opus 51 will be coming home, but also the date for the high definition debut of the Nicole Kidman spooker The Others.
Look for them both on September 20th.
After Dark Originals: 51
The military’s best kept secret is out as Lionsgate releases After Dark Originals: 51 on DVD, Digital Download and On Demand this September. Fully developed and produced by masters of suspense After Dark Films, the movie is a SyFy Original co-production that premiered on the network in February. Starring Vanessa Branch (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl), Bruce Boxleitner (Tron: Legacy), Rachel Miner (Bully) and Jason London (Dazed and Confused), the sci-fi thriller is directed by Jason Connery (Pandemic). The After Dark Originals: 51 DVD includes a behind-the-scenes featurette.
Bowing to political pressure, the Air Force has decided to allow two well-known journalists limited access to the nation’s best-kept secret – Area 51. Given the opportunity, one of the base’s long-term visitors exploits this occasion to liberate himself and his fellow alien captives. The incident quickly turns Area 51 from a secure government base to a destination of terror.
The Others Blu-ray Disc
The 10th anniversary of Miramax’s compelling thriller The Others makes its HD debut as Lionsgate releases the film to Blu-ray Disc this September. Presented for the very first time in 1080P High Definition and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, this chilling horror film stars Academy Award® winner Nicole Kidman (The Hours), Emmy® winner Fionnula Flanagan (Four Brothers) and Christopher Eccleston (TV’s “Heroes”). Written and directed by Alejandro Amenábar (The Sea Inside), audiences are presented with the story of two photosensitive children and their mother, who believes that her family home is haunted. The film earned a Golden Globe® nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) for Nicole Kidman. The Others Blu-ray Disc contains a behind-the-scenes documentary and a number of featurettes that take a look at the director, the visual effects and an examination of the disease portrayed in the film.
While waiting for her husband to return from the Second World War, Grace Stewart (Kidman) retires with her photosensitive children to a mansion. The children have a disease in which they cannot be touched by direct sunlight without being hurt in some way. They live alone there with oppressive, strange and almost religious rules, until Grace needs to hire a group of servants for them. After the servants enter the home, strange events start to occur, and Grace begins to wonder if it’s her sanity getting the better of her or if there is something in the house with them.
