Although it was originally set to begin shooting on September 1st, Omega Underground has now reported that Sony’s Venom will actually begin production on October 23rd, along with providing images of two call sheets to support the information.

Filming will take place in both Atlanta and New York City.

Venom will be directed by Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer and, in addition to likely being rated R, is said to be inspired by the works of David Cronenberg and John Carpenter. Aside from Tom Hardy as the titular superpowered antihero Eddie Brock, the only other attached cast member so far is Rogue One’s Riz Ahmed, although we don’t yet know what character he’ll be playing.

Despite a series of contractions and misunderstandings on the issue, it now appears overwhelmingly likely that Venom will not take place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At least we have the Marvel Netflix shows to provide brutal violence within the MCU.

Despite the delayed production start, Venom is still set to be released on October 5, 2018.
