And the generic title gods have once again smiled upon horror cinema as a means to spoon-feed the public and get their butts into seats at the theatre. Apparently Ghost House Pictures’ long talked about Dibbuk Box is getting a new moniker.

According to Bloody Disgusting the studio that Jigsaw built, Lionsgate, has renamed the film to Possession. How’s that for striking?!?!

The Ole Bornedal-directed horror film starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Madison Davenport, and Natasha Calis will arrive in theaters January 6, 2012.

Synopsis
A recently divorced father’s (Morgan) youngest daughter becomes strangely connected to an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. As his daughter’s behavior becomes more erratic, the father senses a dark presence building until he discovers that the box was built to contain a dibbuk — a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.
