Some pretty cool news has come our way thanks to some sneaky sniffing around we’ve done. Dread Central has learned exclusively that there’s a new genre book label getting ready to make a splash in the red stuff, and there couldn’t be a better captain steering the ship!

Digital publisher Literary Partners Group, Inc., owner of Ravenous Romance, has hired bestselling author and award-winning editor John Skipp (pictured right) as editorial director of their new imprint, Ravenous Shadows.

Skipp will be responsible for all editing and acquisitions, with an estimated schedule of four titles per month. These will include horror, thrillers, crime, mystery, and suspense. The first books will release this fall in a soft launch, with a full launch scheduled for the first quarter of 2012.

Skipp’s tastes are broad yet demanding, and his requirements unusually specific. “I’m looking for 200- to 250-page genre novels, wildly entertaining, with no fat or filler. We’ll be specializing in smart, fun, compulsive page-turners that can be read in the amount of time it takes to watch a feature film.

Skipp will be looking at originals and reprints, by both industry pros and new writers looking to break in. He’s looking to nurture careers and is very interested in developing continuing characters and series and making Ravenous Shadows “a unique boutique imprint for dark, kickass popular entertainment.”

This does not preclude Skipp’s editorial work with Eraserhead Press and his own Fungasm Press, nor his series of theme anthologies with Black Dog and Leventhal. “I’m on a mission to make reading cool again,” Skipp says, “and Ravenous Shadows is a fantastic opportunity to take that mission to the mainstream. I’m incredibly excited.

Even cooler, we also hear that Skipp is going to be developing projects that he thinks might make great movies and actually soliciting the Hollywood film community to see if some of the more talented screenwriters wanna turn their dream projects into short books! More on this soon!
