When you are Ridley Scott, director of such earth-shaking films as Alien, Gladiator, Blade Runner and Hannibal, you can pretty much call the shots. And where has Scott decided his next film will be shot: at the foot of Iceland’s Hekla volcano. This is the same volcano international media reported was about to blow at any moment. The director wasn’t fazed by the report. That’s quite the pair you’ve got there, Mr. Scott.

According to Ice News Scott is quoted as saying: “If one is afraid of nature in this profession then it would be best to find a different job.”

From the site:

The filming (which began on July 11) will last for the next two weeks and will feature Oscar winning actress Charlize Theron and X-Men hero Michael Fassbender. Actress Noomie Rapace is also gracing Iceland with her presence over the next fortnight (that’s two weeks, folks) with the film crew, who will also be filming at the Dettifoss waterfall — Europe’s most powerful by volume of water.

According to Frettabladid, the shoot is a massive undertaking and production costs in Iceland alone run to hundreds of millions of kronur; or several million euro. (That’s even more in American scratch) Ridley Scott did not, however, want to dwell on such matters. 160 Icelanders are involved in the shoot, as well as over 200 visitors to the country — a team Scott described as a “little film crew”.

The footage shot will be used for a “beginning of time sequence” for the very secretive Prometheus. According to the director, there is a lot of “innovative and new stuff” in this film he doesn’t want spoiled by leaks.

Prometheus stars Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green, Ben Foster, and Michael Fassbender.

Look for Prometheus in theaters on June 8th, 2012.
