Ah, remakes. No matter how much everyone complains, you still keep right on coming. Two high profile ones, Oldboy and RoboCop, are moving along at a nice brisk pace, and already actors are being eyed for their leads. Read on for the details on both.
According to Twitch Film Josh Brolin tops Mandate’s casting wishlist for the Spike Lee directed Oldboy remake, filling the enormous shoes of Choi Min-Sik and his hammer.
As for whether Park Chan-Wook’s South Korean film or the Japanese manga of Oldboy will provide the basis for the US film, Twitch says it will be a little of both: “A source close to the production tells Twitch that writer Mark Protosevich is using both the Korean film and the Japanese book as reference points for his own script. While the previous film will have more of an influence on the Protosevich script, the manga will definitely also be present.”
Twitch also reports that Star Trek‘s Chris Pine is the studio’s top choice to take the lead in the upcoming reboot of the sci-fi franchise RoboCop. There is no word as to whether director Jose Padilha agrees with the selection and the offer has not yet gone out, but apparently Pine currently tops the MGM casting list.
Look for more on both of these flicks soon.
