Jason Statham vs. Giant Shark Flick Meg Gets a (Slightly) New Title
Back in March, we let you guys know that the Jason Statham vs. a giant shark flick Meg was going to be delayed from its original March 2, 2018, premiere date to August 10, 2018.
And today we have news via Bloody Disgusting that the film will now be undergoing a (slight) name change, changing Meg to The Meg… for some reason.
Meg – sorry, THE Meg – is still set to eat people stupid enough to swim in the ocean beginning August 10th of next year. Jon Turteltaub (the National Treasure movies, Last Vegas) directs the film based on Steve Alten’s popular novel.
The Meg is produced by di Bonaventura Pictures, Apelles Entertainment, Maeday Productions, Inc., and Flagship Entertainment, in association with Beijing Digital Impression (BDI) Film.
The story involves a deep-sea submersible attacked by a massive creature, previously thought to be extinct. The vessel lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest trench in the Pacific with its crew trapped inside. The screenplay is written by Dean Georgaris along with Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber, based on the New York Times best-selling book by Steve Alten.
In addition to Jason Statham and Li Bingbing, the cast includes Winston Chao, Masi Oka, New Zealander Cliff Curtis, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Page Kennedy, Jessica McNamee, Olafur Darri Olafsson, Robert Taylor, and Sophia Shuya Cai.
