It was just about a year ago when we first heard about writer/director Ramzi Abed’s latest project, Telephone World, and now we have an update for you along with the official teaser trailer.
Abed says that Telephone World is easily his best film. He continues, “I just locked picture, visual fx, and color-correction, and I can’t believe it. Although the movie needs to get into its final audio sweetening, even with the first full rough sound mix… it’s mind-blowing. Elissa Dowling (Abolition, The Theatre Bizarre, Dread) elicits a performance unrivaled by any other actor or actress I’ve seen in a movie ever. Yes, I said ‘ever’. It should really and truly have people questioning what they are seeing. More so than any reality horror film before it, this project takes you into a world that is, for all intents and purposes, completely real. It’s drenched in suspense and is beyond voyeuristic also. It has things happen in it that I’ve never seen before ever, including the opening shot, which is of a camera being thrown and bounced down several blocks of Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, and the main body of the film, which was shot in one continuous live shot in one single take in multiple video formats. Not to mention some of the sound design created and being created by sound genius Borja Sau (Portland, Box of Shadows). It’s chock full of surprises.”
The tagline of the film is “It’s real”, and it is the first film to open with a quote from Wikipedia:
“Reality television is a genre of television programming that presents purportedly unscripted dramatic or humorous situations, documents actual events, and usually features ordinary people instead of professional actors, sometimes in a contest or other situation where a prize is awarded.”
Enough chatter! On with the synopsis and teaser! But first at look at lead actress Elissa Dowling.
Synopsis:
It’s been a long time since a film has played with the notion of reality so much while also crafting an emotionally riveting suspense film, but that is exactly what Ramzi Abed’s newest feature film, Telephone World, is made to do.
Telephone World tells the story of Rachel Plasky (Elissa Dowling), who finds out she got the lead part in a new TV show called “Fairfax Girls”. The main body of the film is shot in one continuous 80-minute shot. All of the action happens in one single take with real phone calls and answering messages occurring in real-time.
Written and directed by Ramzi Abed (The Devil’s Muse, Noirland), the film stars Elissa Dowling (Dread), Chandler Maness (Orgy of Blood), Kara Hyatt (Noirland), Tamarah Murley (A Four-Course Meal), and Eric Fleming (The Devil’s Muse).
