Celebrated television star Anthony Bourdain (“Parts Unknown”, “Kitchen Confidential”) has teamed up with writer Joel Rose (Get Jiro!; Kill, Kill, Faster, Faster) to create the upcoming Dark Horse coming Hunger Ghosts, which is now available for pre-order (it comes out January 31st, 2018). The comic series is one of Karen Berger’s imprint at Dark Horse.

The comic is a four-issue anthology series of ghastly tales rooted in Japanese legend and folklore. The first issue will see art from Alberto Ponticelli and Vanesa Del Rey with color by Jose Villarrubla and a cover created by Paul Pope. Further issues will include art from Leonardo Manco, Paul Pope, Mateus Santolouca, and the fantastic Francesco Francavilla, as well as others.

Synopsis:
Inspired by the Japanese Edo Period game Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai or 100 Candles, played by samurai warriors to test their courage, Hungry Ghosts reimagines this classic game of dread and terror as a circle of international chefs invoke modern tales of horror, terrifying yokai, yorei, and obake, all with the common thread of food—and pray that they survive the night. For the first course, with bad consequence, a ramen chef refuses to help a beggar, and a band of pirates gets more (and less) than they were bargaining for after their encounter with a drowning woman turns ghastly.

Below is the cover of the first issue as well as some sample pages to give you a sample of the full dish.
