Shadow of the Colossus Remake Trailer Casts a Shadow

The original Shadow of the Colossus will always be one of the greatest video games of all time. So, the news of a remake of Team Ico’s classic had fans both excited and filled with trepidation, because it’s got some colossus-sized shoes to fill.

And even if the remake (I need to stress that this new version is a full remake which was built from the ground up, and not a remaster) fails to surpass the original, it still looks like it will be a fantastic game in its own right. A new trailer shown at the Paris Games Week will likely bring fans to tears.

Once again, we will control Wander as he embarks on a quest to slay twelve mysterious, kaiju-sized monsters in order to resurrect his one true love. The idea of placing you in a gigantic open world with no characters to interact with and literally nothing to do aside from hunting down and killing the colossi, was certainly a bold decision at the time, and became one of the key reasons why Shadow of the Colossus is often used to refute the arguments from people who say that video games can never truly be considered an art form.

Sony Interactive Entertainment will publish the remake of Shadow of the Colossus on PS4 next year. If you’re as concerned about video game preservation as I am, rest assured that the remastered version of the original is still available for PS3 via the PlayStation Store.
