It’s been a few months since we’ve gotten an update on writer/director Dave Zagorski’s survival horror Killing Brooke, but he dropped us a line recently with some news on both that film as well as his newest project, The Devil’s Nightmare.

Zagorski tells us, “I’ve recently just completed a rough cut on Killing Brooke. It’s all put together, but I still have audio and color correction to do as well as adding credits and some other minor tweaking. All in all it looks like it’s going to run about 75 minutes, which is a little shorter than I had hoped but still long enough to work as a feature. Overall it looks great; Jared (Skolnick, the DP) has an amazing eye and did a really good job shooting. The cast did an amazing job as well, bringing these characters I wrote to life. There are definitely some standout performances. I’ve shown the rough cut to a few people, and the response so far has been overwhelmingly positive. And that’s only on the rough cut! I think horror fans will be pleased with it.

Killing Brooke stars Alex Fandel, Colin Allen, Ray Hryb, Kt Baldassaro, Dina Baker, and Johnny Donaldson.

Synopsis:
Free-spirited party girl Brooke Porter and her wife, Chloe, are celebrating their recent wedding when they meet Vance, a handsome, lady-killing drifter at a bar. But a drunken night of debauchery will lead them all down the road to terror. Pursued by a vicious, psychopathic madman, Brooke is propelled into a struggle for survival, one that will push her to the limits physically and emotionally.

Zagorski just started filming The Devil’s Nightmare so has taken a break from editing Brooke, but he anticipates getting back to it come September after filming on Nightmare is complete.

With regard to The Devil’s Nightmare, Zagorski tell us, “So far it’s going well. I have Jared Skolnick back as my DP, and he’s joined by Andria Chamberlin, who recently graduated as a Film Major from BU. Just about all of the cast from Killing Brooke is back for this one, and we even brought aboard some ‘new blood’ in Camee Manderfield and Svetlana Orlova. Plus we have the lovely and talented Seregon O’Dassey as ‘Lisa’ and ‘Horror Barbie’ Devanny Pinn in a cameo as ‘Satan’ (pictured below, l-r).

A remake of Jean Brismee’s Belgian/Italian film from 1971 (not released in America until 1974 and alternately titled La plus longue nuit du diable, Castle of Death, La terrificante notte del demonio, and Succubus), The Devil’s Nightmare is written and directed by Dave Zagorski, who’s producing under his MAD Z banner alongside Johnny Donaldson.

Synopsis:
Dr. Henry Rhoneberg (Shanahan) has developed an experimental technique to completely cure people of the vices that rule their lives and has gathered a motley assortment of addicts – from an easily angered alcoholic to a rock star with a love for excess (is there any other kind?) – in a remote facility for treatment. No sooner does the group settle in before interpersonal relationships begin to conflict, people fall into bed, a mysterious stranger arrives at the door…and then the killing starts…

Dave will be doing a production blog on The Devil’s Nightmare, and Colin Allen, who plays “Father Sorel”, will be doing a behind-the-scenes diary as he did with Killing Brooke. The blog and diary can be found on the MAD Z Productions website.
