Halloween 2019 will mark the 29th anniversary of Nickelodeon’s kids horror series “Are You Afraid of the Dark”. Now, it will also mark the release of Paramounts film adaptation, which is being penned by IT‘s Gary Dauberman. The adaptation has locked down a release date of October 11, 2019, allowing us to join the Midnight Society once again for more horrific tales.

Dauberman, who is also producing the movie, stated in an interview that they’re going to honor, “…the darker, scarier tone of the show.” Hopefully this means we’ll get something along the lines of “Stranger Things” or IT, where children are put in truly dangerous situations that don’t hold back simply because of their age. Horror doesn’t hold back simply because kids are in the room, so let’s hope that what we get makes us fear for their lives.

Since the original show featured a new story every episode, it’s not clear how the movie will play out. Will it be one cohesive story? Could it be an anthology, a lá Creepshow? Or could it pull a Trick ‘r Treat, where each segment is intertwined in some way? Personally, I hope for the third one. Seeing films where multiple stories are all somehow interwoven puts the biggest smile on my face.

What do you think?
