Venom Movie Gets First Promo Art

Steve Weintraub of Collider was lucky enough to attend the CCXP (Comic Con Experience) event in Brazil, where he noticed what appeared to be the first promo art for Sony’s upcoming Venom movie hidden away in the Sony booth.

The tagline ‘We Are Venom’ is a direct reference to how in the comics, Eddie Brock usually refers to himself with plural personal pronouns (such as ‘we’ instead of ‘I’) when merged with the Symbiote. Also note how the first two words are written in blood, which is hardly surprising considering reports that the film will carry an R-rating. The logo shows an image of Venom’s face, which fans will be relieved to see looks pretty much the same as it does in the comics, aside from the fact that his signature long tongue is nowhere to be seen.

Whilst we still haven’t received official confirmation, it’s now looking less likely that Venom will connect to Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. At first it seemed as though they would be taking a similar approach to the Marvel shows on Netflix, which are set in the MCU but only occasionally reference the characters and events from the films, but it now appears that Venom will be set within its own separate continuity. Movie Pilot even created a timeline of all the times people involved with Venom stated that it was either part of or separate from the MCU, and it’s pretty damn complicated. At this point it’s probably best to wait for official confirmation from either Sony or Disney.

Venom is directed by Ruben Fleischer and stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, and Riz Ahmed, and will open in wide release on October 5, 2018. Which is less than a year away, so expect to see a lot more marketing soon.
