Question … with the holidays rapidly approaching, who doesn’t love a good bout of depression? That’s exactly what you’re going to get with the release of Lars Von Trier’s feel good movie Melancholia, and we have the wheres and whens for you. Bring your own tissues.
Magnolia Pictures has announced that they will release the dramatic thriller on VOD October 7th before sticking it in limited theaters on November 11th. You’ve been warned.
Melancholia stars John Hurt, Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg (Antichrist), Kiefer Sutherland (Lost Boys, Mirrors), Charlotte Rampling (Angel Heart), Alexander Skarsgard (“True Blood”), Stellan Skarsgard (Exorcist: The Beginning), and Udo Kier (Suspiria).
The film’s title refers to Planet Melancholia, an enormous planet that looms threateningly close to Earth. “No more happy endings!” commented Lars von Trier previously. He is directing from his own screenplay.
