Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Before We Vanish Getting Limited Theatrical Release

One of my absolute favorite J-horror films is Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Kairo (aka Pulse). A haunting and melancholic film, the sense of dread and heaviness that weighs upon each and every frame of that movie is palpable, so thick that it feels like an oppressive blanket slowly suffocating the viewer.

It’s because of my love of Kairo that I’m immediately fascinated and hooked by the thought of seeing Kurosawa’s 20th film Before We Vanish, a sci-fi drama that is apparently just as funny as it is thrilling. Today we’ve learned that the film is getting a limited theatrical release courtesy of Super LTD on February 2, although what particular theaters are getting it has yet to be revealed.

Directed by Kurosawa, Before We Vanish stars Masami Nagasawa, Ryuhei Matsuda, Mahiro Takasugi, Yuri Tsunematsu, and Hiroki Hasegawa.

Synopsis:
Three aliens travel to Earth on a reconnaissance mission in preparation for a mass invasion. Having taken possession of human bodies, the visitors rob the hosts of their essence – good, evil, property, family, belonging – leaving only hollow shells, which are all but unrecognizable to their loved ones.
