First Episode of Vampyr Developer Diary Series Released
With Focus Home Interactive’s upcoming horror RPG Vampyr set to bare its fangs later this year, the publisher have released the first episode in a new web series detailing the game’s long development process.
The first episode of the series is titled “Making Monsters”, and examines how French developer Dontnod Entertainment went about creating the game’s protagonist, Dr. Jonathan E. Reid, and how he would interact with the world around him depending on the actions and decisions of the player. The video also finally gives us a full breakdown of the various vampire factions which will be present in the game, which are listed as the Ekons, which mostly closely resemble humans, the hulking and brutish Vulkods, and the hideously deformed and zombie-like Skals.
It was particularly interesting to hear director Philippe Moreau refer to Vampyr as an AA game, meaning that while it doesn’t quite have the enormous budget associated with huge AAA releases, the medium production costs ensure a far greater level of creative freedom and a stronger likelihood of being allowed to take risks.
Vampyr is finally set to launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC later this year. Be sure to keep an eye on Focus Home Interactive’s YouTube channel for further episodes of the making of web series.
