The New Mutants Will Push the Limits of PG-13 Says Director Josh Boone

The last news we brought you guys on director Josh Boone’s The New Mutants was to let you know that the film was pushed back from its initial April 2018 release date a whopping 10 months (!) to February 2019.

But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t still be excited for the “horror movie set within the X-Men Universe” as director Josh Boon recently spoke with Empire Magazine and let them know the film is going to be pushing the limits of the PG-13 rating.

“This movie is probably the hardest PG-13 ever made,” Boone said. “I mean, we’ve pushed it. The horror is pretty dark, but there’s also an emotional core, too. If I can scare you and make you cry: that’s the goal.”

A “hard” PG-13? That just sounds kinda silly to me. But if you’re going to push, go ahead and push instead of a “soft” R-rating. No one likes that.

Are you still excited about Josh Boone’s The New Mutants? Let us know below!

The film is directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) and stars Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), Maisie Williams (“Game of Thrones”), Charlie Heaton (“Stranger Things”), and Alice Braga (City of God).

The New Mutants hits February 22, 2019.

Synopsis:

A diverse cadre of teens are learning to cope with their superpowers. These new mutants find themselves held in a secret facility against their will and must battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past.
