Brutal Chinese Animated Movie Have a Nice Day Opening in the UK Next Month
After the Chinese government banned it from screening at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, the controversial Chinese animated movie Have a Nice Day (original title: Hao ji le) will open in cinemas across the UK next month.
Described as a film that channels “Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction through a lens of new world, anti-Trump exasperation”, Have a Nice Day takes place in a small remote town in Southern China, with a desperate truck driver stealing a huge stash of money from his boss to pay for his fiancée’s failed plastic surgery, which leads an army of gangsters to try to right him down and claim the cash for themselves. The ’80s-infused soundtrack was created by New York-based electronic music duo The Shanghai Restoration Project.
The brutal 75 minute hand drawn film was nominated for the Golden Bear award at the Berlin International Film Festival, and will likely pick up more accolades as it continues its run. It was written and directed by Jian Liu, and features the voice talents of Kou Cao, Xiaofeng Ma, Siming Yang, and Changlong Zhu. If you live in the UK and would like to catch this soon to be cult classic on the big screen, keep an eye out for it when it opens on March 23.
