A24 Acquires Kristen Roupenian’s Horror Spec Script Bodies Bodies Bodies

Usually I’m not one to write up news reports regarding the sale of spec screenplays, but this script, in particular, sounds pretty interesting to me.

The script in question is called Bodies Bodies Bodies and is written by Kristen Roupenian, author of the hugely popular New Yorker fiction story “Cat Person.”

And while I haven’t read “Cat Person” yet, I’ve heard talk of it. Especially considering that upon its publication last December, the story turned into a viral phenomenon, becoming the most read fiction story The New Yorker published throughout all of 2017.

The script is Roupenian’s first foray into the screenwriting space, and “infuses a similarly fresh, incisive perspective into the horror genre, mixing together elements of shrewd character study, mystery and deep-seated scares.”

A24 has acquired the feature script and is fast-tracking it for production, which marks the company’s first spec purchase. We’ll let you know when we hear further word on this film, but until then let us know what you think of The New Yorker fiction story below!

Read “Cat Person” HERE or listen to it below.

Synopsis:
The story depicts a bad sexual encounter. Slate describes it as a story of “how two people who don’t know or seemingly even really like each other can end up in bed.”
