Ready Player One to Feature Pure Horror Sequence?

This past weekend, our very own Jonathan Barkan was able to check out Steven Spielberg’s new sci-fi action flick Ready Player One at SXSW. You can read his review right here.

While I have yet to see the film myself, recently American Way (the magazine put in the pouches of the American Airlines flights) featured a small paragraph about Ready Player One and its inclusion of Don Mancini’s classic character Chucky.

The exact quote from American Way is: “The diminutive red-headed horror icon slashes his way across the flick. Many of the pop culture cameos are quickies, but production designer Adam Stockhausen promises, ‘You won’t miss him.'”

Add in the fact that we know the film is also set to feature Freddy Krueger from Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street and Christine from John Carpenter’s film (based on the novel by Stephen King), and we’re starting to suspect that Ready Player One may very well feature a pure horror sequence.

It’s also worth noting that Spielberg has a very strong relationship to the genre (Jaws, Poltergeist, War of the Worlds, etc.), and considering the film will need villains for its final battle sequences, it’s easy to assume a full-on horror sequence with tons of badass cameos is in store for us come March 29, 2018.

What do you think of this theory? Let us know below!

Ready Player One is directed by Steven Spielberg from a script by Zak Penn and Ernest Cline, based on the novel by Cline. The film stars Tye Sheridan, Mark Rylance, Olivia Cooke, Simon Pegg, and Ben Mendelsohn.

The film hits theaters March 29, 2018.

Synopsis:
