Let’s say you’re a filmmaker. And let’s say you make a film about a certain secret military base that happens to be in Nevada. What better place to premiere that movie than right up the road in Sin City? And that’s exactly what the people behind Area 51 Confidential intend to do.

Described as The Blair Witch Project meets Alien, Area 51 Confidential looks to be a really tense suspense film in the vein of Blair Witch but with the whole interplanetary thing worked in. And now they’re going to unleash this project on the world.

Area 51 Confidential will be in Las Vegas during the Black October Art and Film Invasion. Although the schedule is not set in stone yet, the festival runs from October 7-9, and Area 51 Confidential will air sometime during the event.

And, not to be outdone, Oklahoma City also has a screening planned. (Maybe the creators are big Kevin Durant fans?). The film will be run on September 24 at 9pm and September 25 at 2am in the VZD’s Restaurant and Club.

If you want to get a little peek into the freaky goings on at this secret military base, scroll down to the trailer below and check it out.

From the Press Release
Area 51 Confidential is a feature film in the vein of Paranormal Activity, Cloverfield, and The Blair Witch Project. The “found footage” subgenre of film has previously been thrust into the spotlight by such films as Paranormal Activity, Quarantine, Cloverfield, and perhaps most famously by The Blair Witch Project. Now the genre is stepping into the realm of science fiction with the feature film Area 51 Confidential.

Directed by Brandon Slagle and starring Adrian Quihuis (Book of 1000 Deaths), Devanny Pinn (Piranha 3D, VIViD), Brandon Slagle (15 Till Midnight, 2012: Ice Age) Angie Johnson, Wolfgang Meyer and Tawny Amber Young, this film examines how people from various walks of life find themselves held captive in a desolate area surrounding a secret government installation rumored to contain extraterrestrial life. With no knowledge of how they arrived there, they must sort out their differences and find a way out – before strange lurking creatures find them first.

Presented under the guise of a “military training video for new hires at the facility known as Area 51”, we follow the plight of a handful of individuals – a broadcast journalist, a documentarian, a teenage girl from Roswell, an army Colonel, and a man who had previously been thought “missing” for a number of years – as they awaken in the desert area surrounding Area 51.

“Shown through the eyes of military surveillance and a cleverly placed array of cameras, Area 51 Confidential hits you with twists and turns and character development not normally seen in this subgenre.”

Check out the World Premiere Screening at The Sci-Fi Center, 900 Karen Avenue, Suite D-202 (upstairs, inside the Commercial Center) during Black October Art and Film Invasion in Las Vegas.

The Oklahoma premiere screening location is the VZD’s Restaurant & Club, 4200 North Western, Oklahoma City, OK on September 24 and 25 at 9pm and 2am.

Episode 268: Mind Body Spirit Filmmkers Alex Henes and Matt Merenda and The Brave Little Toaster (1987)
This week we're joined by Alex Henes and Matt Merenda, the filmmakers behind the yoga-horror found footage film Mind Body Spirit, which is available on demand and streaming on Shudder and AMC+. We chat about Sarah J. Bartholomew's fantastic performance, the script and more before diving into their childhoods and their very different reactions to horror as a kid. Then we chat about The Brave Little Toaster and how it destroyed all four of our childhoods. Anthropomorphic appliances, self-cannibalism, religion...this movie has it all and we laugh our way through describing just how messed up it actually is.
