Saturday Morning Cartoon Gargoyles Receives Semi-Live Action Fan Film
Remember waking up on Saturday mornings and running to the TV in your pajamas so you could spend the early hours of the day watching cartoons? Shows like “ReBoot”, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”, “Looney Tunes”, and “Scooby Doo” were the start of my weekend and it was one of the things I looked forward to every week.
A show that always appealed to me was Greg Weisman’s “Gargoyles”, the dark and brooding series about a group of, you guessed it, gargoyles who turn from stone to flesh at night to help fight crime in New York City. Featuring the voice work of Keith David and Ed Asner, as well as many other talented people, the show was renowned for its story arcs and gloomy attitude, one that gave children something vastly different from the bright and colorful offerings that were popular those days.
Filmmaker Carlos Ferrer is also a fan of the series and has taken his passion one step further by creating a short fan film in the hopes that it will spark interest with the powers that be over at Disney so that a live action adaptation can one day become a reality…hopefully by him.
He explains, “I need as many views as possible to convince producers and execs that my vision of a live action Gargoyles film will work for audiences and fans. It’s a rich story with a great message – a fantasy set in the real world and with today’s technology it could be fantastic. I grew up with this so I feel like I really know what has to be done. So it’s really about getting as much exposure as possible with the fans and others who may not know about the show.”
Watch the fan film below and then let us know in the comments which other Saturday morning cartoons you’d like to see get a big-screen adaptation.
