Exclusive: Tom Holland to Direct the Reynolds Brothers’ Feature Screamers

While on the red carpet last night for the world premiere of the horror-comedy anthology Chillerama at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, we caught up with the Reynolds brothers, who had some very interesting news regarding genre filmmaker Tom Holland’s near-future feature project. Read on!
Brian Reynolds, who previously produced Chaos! Comics creator turned filmmaker Brian Pulido’s 2009 flick The Graves (which stars Clare Grant and Bill Moseley) along with his brother Dean and who is currently in pre-production on the edgy drama Sprawl, leaked the following, “Here’s something news-breaking. Tom Holland is going to direct our next feature. It’s called Screamers, and Dean and I wrote it. Tom Malloy is producing it with us, and we are very excited about that!”
Nudging him for details, Brian stated of the narrative, “Screamers is about a very successful web company that decides to up the game in order to raise a little bit more money. They are kind of YouTubers, and they go to a place where it’s kind of just a joke to go shoot some new footage, but then what they come back with is very serious and very scary and should get people thinking a lot. You know those ‘screamer’ videos online? The ones you see where it says, ‘Look very closely at the screen for the next five seconds,’ and then (he screamed) ‘Ahhhhh!’ It’s based on that type of theory.” [See a well-known example of a screamer video below the photo of the Reynolds brothers at the end of this story.]
We questioned Reynolds on whether Screamers would be shot in a traditional approach or follow the currently trending genre of horror cinema verite, to which he replied with a laugh, “Well, that’s the big question. It’s not going to be a ‘found footage’ film, though.”
