Why Isn’t Barry Sonnenfeld Returning to Direct the Men in Black Reboot Starring Chris Hemsworth?

With all of the recent news surrounding a reboot of Men in Black directed by F. Gary Gray and starring Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, I’m left wondering, “Where Barry Sonnenfeld in all of this?”

Sonnenfeld for those who may have forgotten was the director behind the original Men in Black flicks (along with the first two Addams Family features). So where is he now that his classic Men in Black needs the reboot treatment?

Well, Insider recently chatted with the director about his new Netflix series “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events” and he dropped some info on why the upcoming film will not be a Barry Sonnenfeld joint.

The producers and I don’t really get along,” Sonnenfeld said. “It didn’t seem like it was something any of us wanted to do.”

He then adds: “After ‘Men in Black 3,’ it was pretty clear that Will and Tommy and I had sort of decided we didn’t want to do any more of those. It was a lot of fun. And I loved working with Will and Tommy. But they worked too hard and too long. We all just wanted to move on.”

What do you make of Sonnenfeld’s comments regarding the Men in Black reboot? Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!

The original film was directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and written by Ed Solomon from the comic book series created by Lowell Cunningham and Sandy Carruthers. The film starred Tommy Lee Jones, Will Smith, Linda Fiorentino, and Vincent D’Onofrio.
