Richard Matheson’s I AM LEGEND Gets Folio Society Treatment With Illustrations From Dave McKean
We don’t cover books nearly enough on Dread Central but when I see something incredible, I feel bound (no pun intended) to share the news. That’s why I want to draw attention to Folio Society’s newly announced edition of Richard Matheson’s horror classic I Am Legend, which features an introduction by acclaimed horror novelist Joe Hill as well as brand new illustrations by award-winning illustrator Dave McKean.
This new release comes in two editions, the first a standard issue bound in printed and blocked cloth with a design by McKean. This issue also features a die-cut slip case. The second issue, dubbed the “Limited Edition“, is bound in blocked leather with a design by McKean and features an exclusive signed print as well as metallic foil blocked endpapers and red colored page edges. It also has a printed cloth slipcase.
Matheson’s novel has been adapted into several films over the years, including The Omega Man, I Am Legend, and The Last Man on Earth. Both Stephen King and George A. Romero cite it as a major influence on their works. It follows Robert Neville, the sole survivor of a pandemic that leaves its victims resembling something akin to vampires. Neville spends his days attempting to figure out a cure for the disease while he spends his nights barricaded in his house, warding off the vampiric creatures that are attempting to break in.
