Wes Craven’s SWAMP THING Finally Coming to Blu-ray in the UK this September
Although it’s certainly not considered to be one of his best films, I’ll always have a soft spot for Wes Craven’s Swamp Thing. Based on the DC Comics character, the film opened to mixed reviews when it was originally released in 1982, although it has since gone on to earn a cult following. And it even spawned both a sequel and a spinoff live-action TV series.
88 Films will finally release Swamp Thing on Blu-ray in the UK on September 10, which will be the first time the film has been available on the format in the country. Extras will include two separate audio commentaries, one by Craven himself, and the other by critic and fan Ian Jane, and an interview with production designer Robb Wilson King. More extras will be announced closer to the date of release, although we know that the Blu-ray will also come with a booklet by critic Calum Waddell. The box art revealed on 88 Films’ Facebook page also promises that it will include a limited edition slipcase.
Swamp Thing starred Ray Wise as the scientist Alec Holland, with Dick Durock appearing as his titular monstrous alter ego. The supporting cast includes Adrienne Barbeau, David Hess, Nicholas Worth, and Louis Jourdan. Whilst it was notably lighter in tone than most of the films that shaped Craven’s career, it’s still a film that all horror fans should watch at least once.
UK readers can now pre-order their Blu-ray copy of Swamp Thing on Amazon.
