Leto’s JOKER Gets All-New Standalone Film
Warner Bros. has just given a green light to an untitled standalone film based on Jared Leto’s version of the Joker from Suicide Squad. Leto is set to star and exec produce.
Plot details are currently unknown, Variety reports. But Leto and the studio are currently looking for a screenwriter.
This is all part of the studio’s plan to expand Suicide Squad. They already have a spin-off of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in the works called Birds of Prey, and last fall it was announced Martin Scorsese and Todd Phillips are developing a Joker origin tale.
And speaking of which, Phillips’ film falls under a new origins banner that “would be separate from the current cinematic DC universe. This new banner would allow multiple actors and versions based on the same character with no overlap.”
