Twitter Ghost Story DEAR DAVID Heads to Big-Screen Via IT Producer
“My apartment is currently being haunted by the ghost of a dead child and he’s trying to kill me.”
So began Buzzfeed writer Adam Ellis’ Twitter ghost story Dear David back on August 7th, 2017. Ellis gained more than 1 million Twitter followers throughout the telling of his super-creepy tale.
Which he still claims is based on a true story…
And today we have word producer Dan Lin (Stephen King’s IT) will produce a feature film based on the story, which The Wrap says will be “a high-concept horror thriller based on Ellis’ tweets and images.”
“I’ve never been interested in convincing anyone that ghosts are real–I just wanted to tell my story,” Ellis says. “If it was all fiction, I probably would’ve updated more than once every couple weeks.”
The script will be written by Mike Van Waes, based on a story by Van Waes and Evan Turner. BuzzFeed Studios’ Lauren Dolgan and Hieu Ho will produce alongside Lin and Jonathan Eirich. Turner will serve as executive producer.
